Inverness – meaning “Mouth of the River Ness” in Gaelic – is a vibrant city in the Scottish Highlands. Regarded as the capital of the Highlands, Inverness boasts a rich history and a buzzing cultural scene. Located just on the doorstep of the hiking trails of the Highlands, Inverness makes a lovely city to visit for exploring nature, as well as enjoying the city life and Scottish hospitality.

And a trip to Inverness wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Loch Ness – make sure to add that into your itinerary!
The city centre is compact and can be easily explored by foot. Alternatively, you can rent a bicycle. To explore the natural wonders of the Highlands, drive or use the local buses. You can easily get to Inverness by train from all of Scotland’s major hubs; it’ll take 3-4 hours from both Edinburgh and Glasgow. Inverness airport connects to other UK destinations, and is just a 15 minute drive or 30 minute coach shuttle from the city centre.
